Play Therapy
Play therapy is a way for children to work through thoughts, emotions, beliefs, process events and change behaviors in a way that is more appropriate to their current level of functioning. While there are the exceptions to the rule, most children cognitive processing limits what they are able to understand and communicate as adults do. Play or "just playing" specific activities/games allows the children to use their language to communicate, process and express what is going on in their world. There are different theories in the play therapy world that govern the way that play therapy is conducted in the play room. Please read more to learn more and questions are welcome.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
DBT teaches a series of skills and techniques to help an individual manage distress, relationships, regulate emotions and learn to be more mindful (grounded in the moment). DBT skills are also helpful in managing difficulty related to moods, personality difficulties, attention, anger and more. These techniques are flexible and are practical for daily life after you practice them to become more comfortable.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing
In EMDR, the bilateral stimulation similar to the rapid eye movement that occurs while you are sleeping allows for the brain to recall and reprocess past information/memories/bodily sensations/thoughts that at times are trapped in a brain causing mental health symptoms.
